Ingredients:
1) 1 cup Arhar dal (washed 5-6 times in running water)
2) 4 cup water
3) 1 tsp salt ( as per taste)
4) 1 tsp cumin seeds
5) 1 tbsp tomato purée (or one fresh tomato puree)
6) 1 tsp turmeric powder
7) Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped
8) 1 tsp ghee ( or butter)
9) 1 medium onion finely chopped
10) 1 tsp red chilly powder
11) 2 small green chilies finely chopped.
12) 0.25 tsp kashmiri lal mirch powder
13) 1 tsp kasoori methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
Method for Arhar dal (Toor lentil) in IP.
Preparation time : 45-50 minutes
1) Pre- heat IP by pressing ON the sauté button with time set for 7 minutes
2) When heated add ghee and press again the saute button for another 10 minutes.
3) Add cumin seeds and once cumin seeds start cracking (splatter) , add ginger paste and sauté for 30 seconds .
4) Add onion and sauté till onions turn light golden brown.
5) Add tomato purée and sauté for 1 minute
6) Add all masalas (salt, red chilies powder, kashmiri lal mirch powder and turmeric powder)- sauté for 1 minute
7) Add green chilies and sauté 1 minute
8) Add lentils (dal) and mix well with all masalas and now add 4 cups of water and little coriander leaves.
9) Cancel sauté button and change whistle position to sealing
10) Close the lid and turn ON pressure cooker button with time set for 11 minutes and keep warm button to off position
11) Once PC button is auto off , please wait for steam to completely release from pressure cooker.
12) Once steam pin is down, now open the lid – lentils are ready- add dry fenugreek leaves to lentils( by rubbing them between your palms)
13) Mix well and Arhar dal is ready to serve.
